Mandalay – Katha – Bamauk – Zalon Hill
[5 Days/ 4 Nights]
A journey on the steps of famous British writer George Orwell. See where he lived and worked as a policeman for the Indian Imperial Police. This extension, out of Mandalay, can be combined with any Classic Myanmar Tour.
After breakfast, drive to Katha which is the setting for George Orwell’s Burmese Days (~10 hr). There are several breaks and photo stops along the way.
Arrival in Katha and check-in at the hotel.
Overnight in Katha
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning, visit George Orwell’s House, where he lived as Deputy Commissioner of Police, as well as a number of colonial era wooden buildings: Deputy Commissioner Mr. Macgregor’s House, Revenue Assistance Office, the Divisional Forest Officer’s House, the Tennis Club and the richly decorated British Club.
In the afternoon, drive to Man-Lae Village to visit the ancient Man-Lae Monastery and see the mummy of a venerated Master Monk passed away in 192. His coffin is studded with rubies and saphires.
Then continue to Tagon Taing Village where you can find Myanmar largest canoe which is carved out of single Teak Trunk (Length 57 feet, Width 6 feet, 5 inches).
After the visit to a Drum Workshop in Latpangone Village. drive back to Katha.
Overnight in Katha
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Bamauk (~3hr). In Bamauk, change vehicle for 4×4 car for the drive to the base camp of Zalon Hill (1h30). Then hike up to the view point where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Zalon Hill and experience soft trekking in untouched nature.
Back to Katha in the evening.
Overnight in Katha.
Early morning after breakfast, drive to the Nat Paut Elephant Camp (~30 min). Then follow the elephants in their daily life. Enjoy close contact with these gentle giants while feeding them and assisting in their daily bath in the river. Beautiful memories alert. Back to Katha in the evening.
Overnight in Katha
After breakfast, drive back to Mandalay and check-in a your hotel.
